Both the Iwata and Beis labs are interested in the function and structure elucidation of membrane proteins by X-ray crystallography. The work will be carried out at the Membrane Protein Lab (MPL); the MPL is a joint venture between Imperial College London and Diamond Light Source. The lab is situated within the UK's new synchrotron making it an ideal place for the screening and data collection of microcrystals using the microfocus beam capabilities of the synchrotron.

The motivation of the Imperial College labs to join the K4DD project is to use our expertise in structural biology on membrane proteins to assist designing innovative medicines together with the K4DD colleagues.
